It’s been way too long since I’ve heard from Buffalo, NY-based Tough Old Bird. The brotherly duo brings true depth of emotion to their traditional arrangements. However, their original songs blend seamlessly with the elements that make folk so enduring: a sort of distant melancholy that braces you against the challenges that lie ahead.
Tough Old Bird’s latest release, “Harbor Song,” uses tinny horns, a self-assured a rhythm, and delicate vocals to prepare for the long path ahead. Nathan Corrigan’s delivery reminds us of the beauty of life and the tragedy of its finite nature. “Harbor Song” is the first single off their next album, The Old Great Lakes, which will be out at the end of June.
