I don’t normally post singles by themselves but Gerry Magallan’s “Manzana Pie” is such a standout I didn’t want it to get lost in the kerfuffle. “Manzana Pie” is a truly outstanding memoir about Magallan’s reconciliation of his Mexican and American identities growing up in Indiana. In the three-and-a-half-minute run time the song seamlessly transitions between humor and isolation, confusion and pathos, then back to pride. It’s a brilliant song delivered with just the right emotional touches. Check it out today.
