Here’s a musical nugget from our friends at Audio Antihero records and Brooklyn-based Magana. The single is Magana’s guitar-driven “Inches Apart.” It’s a haunting track that sees Magana at a delicate and vulnerable moment.
However, our heroes at frog remixed the track to deconstruct it into their special brand of ambient shoegaze. You may remember frog because I heralded their album Kind of Blah as one of the best albums about New York City period hands down. Nothing I’ve heard in the past two years has changed that.
Benjamin Shaw deconstructs the song even further, slowing down the guitar tracks to create a spacious asymmetrical rhythm that turns Magana’s vocals into a halting stutter.
