Rocky Bottom’s latest EP, Modern Machine, takes a much harder stance than American Man. While the previous album was good-natured, Modern Machine takes a bluesier approach to tackle the ennui of modern life and the quest for self-satisfaction.
“Someday” picks it up a little bit, ruefully suggesting that while there may be a day when Rocky becomes more “developed” (which I personally think is a self-help book scam), it’s not today. “Family Reunion” highlights Rocky’s preternatural storytelling ability, while “Love Bug” sends us out on a blues rocker. There’s swagger in spades here as Rocky Bottom’s maturity as a songwriter continues to grow.
