Hey, everyone! What do you think of the new look? As Adobe & Teardrops approaches its 10th anniversary in December, I thought it was high time to update the lewk, and Will Bennett of Will Bennett and the Tells did not disappoint! (In fact, this was all his idea.) He had done such a great job on the graphic design for last spring’s 9th anniversary party, I was thrilled when he approached me about giving Adobe & Teardrops a facelift.
More importantly, as we approach the 10th anniversary of the blog, I want to thank all of you for reading, commenting, joking with me on Twitter, tuning in to the podcast. As with everyone who’s made it through this past year, COVID has led me to focus more on what I want to prioritize when we no longer need to isolate — things that involve interacting with people in meatspace, like playing softball or maybe finally playing in a band? But also, I want to buckle down and be an even better advisor to my students, so this past Friday I sent in an application for social work school. The program is designed for people who are working full-time, so I don’t know how I’ll squeeze grad school, work, and a podcast in but…I started this blog as a reprieve from my first master’s degree and teaching high school, so once way or another I’ll make it work! (If I were to make a prediction, the podcast would become less frequent and I’d start writing more reviews here again.)
But even as I was considering pulling back on the blog, a lot of cool things happened:
- Raye Zaragoza made a documentary about the lead-up to her most recent album, Women in Color, and if you skip ahead to minute 9 you’ll see her tearing up she reads my review of her album in No Depression. I feel so fortunate that I can help people realize their dreams, feel understood, and hopefully persuade others to experience their art.
2. I won a Self-Made Indie Podcaster Award for Best Female Host and Best Music Podcast! This was set up by the fine folks at Plum Forest Podcast, which retells Chinese folk tales. Thanks to everyone who voted! I appreciate your time and support!
3. I’ve been approached by Todd L. Burns for an interview in his Music Journalism Insider newsletter. I didn’t think I was that big-time, so it’s cool that OTHER people think of me as a music journalist whatever I think a bout myself!
Lastly, if you scroll to the bottom of the new page, you’ll see that there’s merch for sale! These are all print-on-demand, so no need to worry about t-shirts gathering mothballs in my closet. Will designed these, too, and I think they’re badass. Here’s just one t-shirt that could make you look extremely cool!)
Thanks, as always, for your support! Be well!
