HEY! LISTEN: Horse & Wells — “Going”

Is there anything better on a spring morning than a plaintive, lonely country song? Brooklyn-based Horse & Wells have perfected the art on “Going,” a sprawling composition of steel guitars and distortion — just the kind of alt-country we look for around here. The song has a steady beat, at once plodding and doggedly determined to find resolution in an ambiguous relationship.

Horse & Wells describes themselves as an indie-rock band that combines alt-country elements and instrumentation with emo-adjacent songs. That’s evident in “Going’s” mournful lyrics, the third song off of their self-titled EP.

“The main concept of this song revolves around the idea that physical distance often begets emotional distance,” Horse & Wells told Adobe & Teardrops. “Early on in the writing process, we knew we wanted this track to be our take on a country-style ballad, and so we tried to evoke those themes of space and distance in the track’s sparse instrumentation.”
