Sometimes, you need to give yourself a good kick in the pants. That’s how I interpret SlowTown Echoes’ “Get What I Want.” It’s a song that wallows a bit in self-pity, but is self-aware enough to know that, maybe, just maybe, the person the song is addressed to knows what they’re talking about. With Corey Anctil’s world-worn voice, the song has a bit of a punk edge along with its country slide guitars. The band’s harmonies remind us that, no matter how the song’s narrator feels, he’s actually not as alone as he thinks.
SlowTown Echoes is a new music project created by Southbridge, MA native Corey Anctil at the start of the pandemic. After a long hiatus from writing music, he decided that he needed an outlet, something to look forward to. And so the writing began…
By mid-summer of 2020, Music Photojournalist Alicia Lyman introduced Corey to Chris Short at Alpaca Ranch Recording in Altamonte Springs, FL and since then, Chris has been taking the reins as producer and engineer on the debut record.
“The song started out as just a fun idea on my acoustic guitar and a melody with some lyrics along with the mindset of not really getting everything I want regardless of how maybe others might think or feel,” writes Anctil. “Through all the hard times I am exceptionally proud of this record. Alicia has been the catalyst for encouraging my music to be recorded and introducing me to all the great folks here in Florida. Without Alicia there wouldn’t be SlowTown Echoes. Thanks for inspiring me, ‘honey.'”
