PRIDE MONTH: Rachael Jenkins Reveals Imposter Syndrome in “I Don’t Know”

Utah-born singer/songwriter Rachael Jenkins will stop you in your tracks. Her confessional songwriting spills her innermost thoughts straight into your ears. Inspired by modern songwriting heroes Hayley Williams and Phoebe Bridgers, Rachael is a powerful artist who’s set to steal your heart and break it at the same time as she shares tales of love, loss, trauma and self-reflection.

“I Don’t Know”, Jenkins’ second single, is a self-reflective tearjerker which sees Rachael become the main character in her story as she discuss what it feels like to be imposter.

“I wrote this track as an attempt to explain what goes on inside my brain when I’m feeling overwhelmed and afraid,” Jenkins writes. “I frequently feel like I don’t know what I’m doing in life, like I’m an imposter who doesn’t deserve what I have. I get insecure and filled with self-doubt when I’m unsure of which step to take because trusting myself is difficult.”

The Bridgers influence is strong in this one — so much so that I had a double-check the name of the artist I was listening to. But Jenkins is undeniably herself as the song unfolds, speaking directly to the anxieties so many of us (I’d like to think all of us) face.
