Hi, everyone! As I mentioned last week, Adobe & Teardrops is pivoting to Spotify playlists instead of weekly podcasts because I am anticipating a dearth of free time once grad school begins! While I hate almost everything about Spotify, at this point, Spotify playlists do more to help musicians boost their music than a podcast does, so I hope that making this gives exciting new and emerging artists an extra boost!
In that spirit, in addition to a weekly playlist with whatever theme comes to my mind, I’m also going to update Tuesday Teardrops on — you guessed it — Tuesdays. This is where you can find everything that is new and exciting to me, and you should give that list a little ol’ follow!
You can also stream it here, and my notes about each artist are below!
- I should also add that it’s MY birthday, too! I didn’t think I was the kind of person to have birthday feels, but here we are. American Aquarium’s “Losing Side of 25” is the song that helps me snap out of it when I feel “behind” my peers.
- Similarly, as I think about what the year has brought me, it’s brought me a whole-ass wedding (forthcoming in 2022.) Paisley Fields co-wrote this one on Mercy Bell’s new album Golden Child, and I suspect she’ll play it at our wedding if I ask really nicely.
- I wrote up Devon Beck‘s ballad to lost illusions “Mirrors” last week, and the song has been in my head ever since. So it’s your turn to listen to it.
- The Sundogs‘ raucous “I Don’t Know If She’s Home” is a great slice of classic rock without all the toxic masculinity baggage. Check back tomorrow for our five rounds interview!
- I told Jess Jocoy I was going to review her EP when it came out a few months ago; hasn’t happened yet but it will this week, dammit! “Mansion on a Hill,” to me, is the best song on there, though. It’s a beautiful story of two artists trying to build their lives together…
- …which reminds me of Von Bieker’s “Artist’s Life,” a similarly melancholy story. That review is coming up, too!
- Just to get things as delightfully rowdy as they should be, let’s take a listen to Cascade Cody‘s “In Lieu of Love.” Cody and I spoke about the influence of the Cascade Mountains on his music a few weeks back. You can read all about it here.
- In case you missed Naomi Westwater‘s interview, posted this morning, here’s a little taste of her music. Her upcoming EP Feelings should prove to be phenomenal.
- On “Monsters,” Nichole Wagner tackles the past — and wins, on a beautifully subdued Americana track that’s also a not-to-be-missed rocker.
- For reasons that are Yet To Be Disclosed, I’ve got Miko Marks on my mind so let’s have a listen to “Ancestors” from her beautiful album Our Country.
