Jackie Giroux and Caelen Perkins are a self described, harmonizing indie rock duo with the energy of young love and angst. Jacklen Ro have gone from high school into a pandemic, and now arise as a band playing their first shows to a new generation emerging out of teenage quarantine.
The song has a dreamy, child-like quality that is immediately endearing. Jacklen Ro keep things simple, describing a love that lasts with a light, airy melody. In lesser hands, the song would be grating, but the band has a winning chemistry and sincerity that carry the song through. The video complicates the song’s message, portraying a queered version of the classic 1950s nuclear family, and ultimately subverting the trope, finding liberation in breaking the mold.
“‘Life With You’ is a song about unconditional love that’s reciprocal,” the band tells Adobe & Teardrops. “It’s about the people you’re there for and are there for you when you need them. Like family. The people you want to shower with love cause they won’t judge.”
