Get Washed Away With Carl Kammeyer’s Breezy “Since You Been Gone”

Carl Kammeyer is an American singer/songwriter living in Bethel Island CA. Carl is currently creating his own music that he loves. Carl plays an arrangement of many instruments that all come together creating these powerful songs with feelings.

Kammeyer’s new song “Since You Been Gone” is a beachy, summery tune that doesn’t resemble that other song of the same title. It’s a wistful song that makes missing a loved one almost fun. It’s acoustic rock at its best, with beautiful harmonies and a funky bass line. Carl tells us more about his work and influences below.

Who are some of your musical influences?

One of my musical influences is my mother. She was the one who started me on my musical journey in the first place. It all started when I was in the seventh grade my mother saved up enough money in the first place. It all started when I was in the seventh grade my mother saved up enough money to buy me a keyboard for Christmas. She taught and encouraged me to play by ear like her. I practiced every day after school, and after two years I learned to master playing by ear. I went on to play for the youth choir at our local church. I later learned to read music and years later after that I had been self-taught to play the guitar that I saved up for.

Tell us about the first song you wrote.
The first song I wrote for this album was “It’s a Wonderful Feeling.” It’s a love song about two people falling in love. Whenever I write a song it’s while I’m doing things like washing the dishes or driving to the store. They just pop in my head.

Do you have any songwriting tips you can share?
I don’t believe there is a wrong way or a right way to write a song. My tip would be to feel the song first and follow where it leads you. Every song that I’ve written is different because I don’t use any songwriting methods. Wherever the song takes me is where I’ll go.

Do you start off with the music or lyrics first? And why?
I always start off with the music first and then I’ll add in the lyrics later. I don’t know why. I guess that’s the way I’ve always done it and it feels right to do it that way for me.

Who would you love to collaborate with and why?

I would love to collaborate with any singer/songwriter who loves music as much as I do. We’ll have a blast together.
