PREMIERE: Some Things Never Change For The Barlow’s “New Year, Old Me”

Denver-based country band the Barlow have done it again with their new single “New Year, Old Me.” The band has a special brand of high-octane honky tonk, evidenced by the chugging bass and mile-a-minute drums on their latest peon to loafing around. The song is a good time, evoking the wild nights and bleary days that keep the narrator stuck in their holding pattern with no regrets.

“This song is intended for folks who never change, for better or worse,” singer and guitarist Shea Boynton tells Adobe & Teardrops. “As we get older and wiser I sometimes feel like I find humor and entertainment in the same things I did 10 years ago. I like doing the same things I did 10 years ago. I’m still absent minded in the way I was as a teenager. There’s stripes that are always underlying no matter our experiences or growth as people.”

The song is the title track for the band’s second release, out tomorrow.

New Year, Old Me was recorded between December 2021 and March 2022 at Evergroove Studio, E Squared Studio, and Brogly Sound. The album is filled with songs written during an extensive 2021 tour that found The Barlow boys supporting their second effort, Horseshoe Lounge, by opening for Cody Canada and the Departed, Jaime Wyatt, Read Southall Band, and Micky and the Motorcars. The Barlow also gigged a four-night Colorado run with Austin’s neotraditional country outfit Mike and the Moonpies.
