I’ll let Cass take it from here:
“I’m Cass and I’ve been songwriting before I started driving. I am an ardent listener of folk, bluegrass, country and rock mostly from the past. I believe my songs speak on that same level and my band Small Gas Engines does the best job of delivering them well beyond my wildest expectations. Our new album was cut live so the tracks ring true to our stage show.”
The band certainly does have a vintage charm on their upcoming single “Under Your Spell.” They take a subtle approach to honky-tonk two-step, foregrounding Cass’ dusty vocals and fond attempt to woo. But Cass’s voice, as they say, is one that knows about Twitter: his cigarette-infused rasp tells of a past of punk rock nights. The band reminds me of early Roger Clyne/The Refreshments: confident, dedicated to craft and their heroes, and ready to make a mark..
“This song is about the early stages of romance,” Cass writes. “It may or may not be influenced by a Buck Owens song.”
