HEY! LISTEN: Lynn Drury Celebrates the Mundane in “Live My Life”

I don’t know about you all but burnout has been hitting me something FIERCE these last few weeks. I blame the unrelenting 6 weeks of rain in New York City, but I’ve also been writing stuff like this for like the ten years, so who can say why I’m sad?

Well, Lynn Drury pushes back against all that on “Live My Life.”

This is not one of those songs that’s about sticking your head in the sand and enjoying yourself (looking at you, Lukas Nelson.) “Live My Life” is about confronting those frustrations head on and moving through them anyway. More importantly, there’s a difference from running away from your problems and rejecting the institutions that create them. When Drury sings about throwing her phone away to go outside and touch grass, she’s not telling us to tend to our own garden: she’s reminding us that we are unhappy because of external forces, and we can resist them by rejecting them.

Drury will be performing on New Orleans’ famous WWOZ at 10 PM – 12 AM Central to celebrate the single’s release. Her next album is due out on February 2024.
