PREMIERE: Tucker Riggleman and the Cheap Dates Haunt This Weary Earth on “Restless Spirit”

Tucker Riggleman, founder of Prison Book Club, is back at the Sisyphean Boulder of indie rock with his latest single, “Restless Spirit.” This is the title track off his band, Tucker Riggleman and the Cheap Dates’ upcoming album from War Hen Records. As is typical of the Cheap Dates, Riggleman’s ennui is set to a thick backdrop of scuzzy distortion and garage rock groove.

The accompanying music video was handcrafted by drummer M Tivis Clark. A rock and roll dirge, “Restless Spirit” heaves to Clark’s hypnotic percussion. Darker sounds influence the overall track, while Lee Carroll’s otherworldly organ playing drives the seance. Riggleman isn’t sure if he’s simply “the pile of bones in the bed of the creek” or a “golden gift from above”, his only certainty is that he’s “down here in it…just another restless spirit.”

With decades of collective tread on the tires, The Cheap Dates have rightfully earned their reputation as a captivating, high-energy live act. Hoping to capture some of that magic, they once again turned to Grammy-nominated producer Duane Lundy to help hone their signature goth-tinged twang rock. Restless Spirit builds upon The Cheap Dates’ previous efforts in every way, cementing them as an important voice in the worlds of alt-country and indie rock.
