HEY! LISTEN: Brei Carter Kicks Off Black History Month With Country Disco “Boots Get to Talking”

We can talk about authenticity and country music ’til the cows come home (ha) but there’s no debate that “authenticity” is always used as a means of defining who’s in and who’s out of the genre — and for far too long that has included Black people. To kick off Black History Month, Brei Carter has a response to the suits who decide who’s country enough. “Boots Get to Talking” is a country disco track designed for the jubilant cookouts shown in the music video. With Elektrohorse on production and directing the video, this is a song you can’t help but tap your foot to.

Carter has worn many different hats in addition to that of a cowboy. Before she pursued country musi, Brei earned a Bachelors in Business from University of Louisiana in Monroe, a Masters in International Relations from Webster University, and a Doctorate in Theology from New Foundation Theological Seminary. She is also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where she served as an enlisted soldier and as an officer. Carter moved to Nashville after her tour ended, earning her many nods in Music Row.

Carter made her CMA Fest debut in 2022, and released her debut album Brand New Country, which included her fan-favorite cover of Charley Pride’s “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin,” and her life’s musical story “Stronger Than That.” In 2023 Brei released her latest original, “Straight Up Country Crazy,” which perfectly showcases her dynamic and jovial personality and her first holiday EP, the critically acclaimed Twinkling Tales of Christmas.

Carter looks to release a full album later this year.
