Sometimes, the personal doesn’t have to be political…until other people make it that way. Jenny James found herself in that position with her childless cat-lady anthem “Cats Over Men.”
It’s a dilemma old as time: pets demand our attention when we’re in the arms of a lover…and we know who will win. It’s the one with four legs and a tail. James delivers her roots-rock proclamation with glee, and you can feel how much fun the band is having. But there’s a slightly more serious side to this, which all pet owners know well.
“This is an autobiographical song. I was a very poor judge of character, especially when it came to men,” James explains. “My cat, however, was an excellent judge of character. She helped me know when a man was a ‘keeper.’ All of my dates had to pass the “cat’ test.”
