Linda Dunnavant is ready for some serious conversations on her new single “Own It.” The track continues on her streak of shimmery Americana, painting a portrait of life as a waking dream. Even conflict, as “Own It” shows us, should be approached with calm and acceptance.
“‘Own It’, is about when a friend unexpectedly stops speaking to you and you are desperate to do anything you can to make it right.” Dunnavant says, “I usually write solo, but this song is built around a guitar part my producer sent me one day. As soon as I pressed play, the words for this song began tumbling out. It was a fun collaboration and I love how different it is from songs I usually tend to write.”
Originally from Moultrie, GA, Linda grew up singing and making up songs. One of her earliest memories isfiguring out how to rewind a Patsy Cline tape so that she could listen to “She’s Got You” over and over again while her mom ran into the store.
Hidden Lake, Linda’s forthcoming album, feels like a big exhale after you’ve been holding your breath too long. The collection of nine songs are largely about the double-edged sword of desiring connection. The fear of showing your true self to someone else and the relief when you’re seen and understood. It’s about being in one relationship where you can learn how to fight, repair the damage, and then be even closer than you were before. It’s also about how we’re all in conflict with ourselves and the shame we carry and how that shows up in relationships with other people.
Hidden Lake will be out on September 6th.
