“The concept for the new single actually came from an idea that Eric Clifford, Lake & Lyndale’s bassist, and I had one day when we were discussing creating a television series,” recalls lead singer Channing Krentz. “called “Man Upstairs.” “It would be set in a house or apartment complex, and there would be a different actor each episode playing the man upstairs. We ultimately decided that we don’t really know anything about creating a TV series! I loved the title though and decided to take it into a write.”

But there’s a more serious aspect to the song as well, one that can be felt in its soulful vocals and a groove that is both powerful and sincere.

“I had some intense conversations in the months leading up to the write about religion, and it left me feeling a bit confused on how you can feel on the same page with people but realize maybe you’re in completely different books,” she continues. Alex Kiel and producer Brittany Moore helped round the son gout. “I took the title into the write with those conversations on my mind. The song follows a couple moving into their first apartment and some of the struggles they end up having. I like that the song can be interpreted in different ways. The listener can take it quite literally or can think of it as a bigger picture. I feel like the open-to-interpretation aspect captures how we all can feel when trying to find answers to some of the big questions in life.”
