HEY! LISTEN: Freyah — “Set It On Fire”

Need some swagger? Freyah’s got it — and plenty to share. “Set It On Fire” pulls out all the stops for a fun and cocky blues rock romp, full of big distorted guitars and jumprope rhymes. Freyah sings like she knows what she’s talking about in “Set It On Fire,” and the New Yorker probably does: it’s not easy to be taken seriously as a woman rocker in 2021, so, as the song suggests, sometimes you have to make people figure it out.

Freyah is an indie rock/blues rock songwriter, singer and performer from the NYC area. Her music is part catharsis, part rebellion and part story telling for the sake of spinning a good tale. Her latest album Run Wild tells the tale of getting in trouble — intentionally seeking it out while also trying to steer clear.

“‘Set it on Fire’ is an anthem for women who love to let loose without care for traditional conventions or outside opinion,” Freyah writes exclusively to Adobe & Teardrops. “It’s about showing up as you are and letting it be what it will be. It’s not just a sigh of relief: it’s permission granted — liberation and exhilaration — that scream out the open window of a racing car, wind rushing through your hair! It’s about spontaneity and doing what feels good in the moment. I like to imagine a group of women showing up at a traditionally male bar, barging in and taking over, boots up on the table, bourbons in hand! I can’t wait to perform this one live with my crew and see the absolute live and gritty fun that will emerge from this song.”
