Faded Rose is a New York based Indie-Alternative artist whose unique style spans multiple genres. Drawing inspiration from artists like Alanis Morissette, Stevie Nicks and Hayley Williams, Faded Rose creates the perfect blend of 90’s alternative, indie-pop, and today’s country music.
In our interview, Faded Rose told us a bit about the rhythms and influenced behind her song “Judgment Day.” She tells us, “This song was inspired by an experience I had at a bar I regularly performed at. It started out as a joke but quickly transformed into something else and is actually my favorite on the EP.”
Given the song’s intoxicating rhythm, what Faded Rose has to say below is no surprise.
What are some of your musical influences?
I grew up in the 90’s and really loved alternative/pop music, so I was heavily influenced by female artists like Alanis Morissette & No Doubt. But really, I appreciate all types of music and will listen to anything I feel connected with. I’m not really pinned to any particular genre.
Explain the title of your album.
My album is called Don’t Say which the title track. The song is about trying to build walls to shield yourself from hurt and vulnerability in a relationship while at the same time, wanting to give into love.
Do you start off with lyrics or melody first? Why?
Always melody. They usually come when I’m fiddling around on the guitar. Once a melodic idea comes to mind, the lyrics tend to flow and I build the song around the melody. For me, it’s about feeling the music. The more I feel it, the more authentic it is. I may have lyrical ideas that I will keep in a notebook for later use, but I always start with melody first.
Who would you love to collaborate with? Why?
There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with, but my number one is Ed Sheeran. I think he’s a brilliant writer and an incredibly talented musician. He is also extremely versatile which is an important aspect of songwriting, especially when you write for other artists. He also seems like overall good guy and the English accent doesn’t hurt either 😉
Do you have any songwriting tips you can share?
Be yourself. Although we are all influenced by other artists, I think it’s important not fall into the trap of trying to sound like someone else or follow any sort of trend. You won’t come off as authentic and it ultimately inhibits creativity. When you are emotionally connected to your music, your songs and performances will always be better, and that comes from within.
