They don’t always have to be sad songs, yannow? But it is pretty difficult to write a happy one. Danny Goring gracefully succeeds on “The Blinding Light.” It’s a love song, but it’s also a song that reminds us to great each dawn with joy and wonder.

There are a lot of elements here that make “The Blinding Light Work,” not least of which is Goring’s warmth and confidence. We all love a good British folk song here, and Goring’s delivery reminds me of Frank Turner’s frankness and optimism. Turns out, when you mean what you sing, it goes a long way towards getting those emotions across.
