Austin rockers Cowboy Diplomacy deliver a message of hope on their new single “Dark Days.” The song was written during the Covid-19 lockdown and inspired by the ongoing pandemic.
“From not being able to see our families, to losing jobs, and even losing loved ones, I think mankind can mutually agree that this sucks,” says frontman Ian Cochran.
“Things have been tough. But together we have stayed hopeful, we have stayed strong, we have worked hard to beat this, and we have loved thy neighbor. Brad and I wrote this song about waking up every day and being thankful for life. Being thankful that the sun is up. We are all grinding through as best we can. There have been some dark days as of late but we look forward to the beautiful ones to come.”
“Dark Days” serves as a reminder that when darkness falls, the sun will still always rise, and that makes everything “alright.” The band delivers a thunderous take on country music that marries heavy metal and power rock to open vistas and determination. I dare you to listen to this song sitting down.
Name a perfect song and tell us why you feel that way.
“Grand Optimist” by Dallas Green (City and Colour). Mr. Dallas Green can be really stressed out sometimes. But his dad is positive and takes life with a grain of salt. I like to look at my dad like that. He is the man. This song reminds me of my family and how much I love them.
Tell us about the first song you wrote.
“Eyes Of A Lion” is the first song I ever wrote – about my “first” love. I was goo goo gaga over this girl in high school. The song talks about our journey together through junior year and the summer time. Ultimately, she ended up cheating on me and breaking my heart. Woohoo!
Who would you love to collaborate with? why?
We’d love to collaborate with Red Hot Chili Peppers. I grew up idolizing Anthony Kiedis. I fell in love with his book Scar Tissue and felt like I understood him. His lyrics and delivery are just so cool, and the band is just so funky and musically talented.
Tell us about your favorite show you’ve ever played.
Favorite show was at Empire Control Room in December 2019 for our first ever album release, Burn Down The Road. It was a special night to play for a big crowd of people and to celebrate finally having released a full length album.
What’s the first concert you ever attended? What do you remember about it?
Blink 182. I remember there were huge letters on fire saying “FUCK” as soon as they came out on the stage.
