WATCH THIS: Reilly Downes Smolders on “Wicked Game” Cover

Reilly Downes is an Americana artist originally from the Texas Hill Country and now residing in Chicago. Before deciding to embark on a solo career, Downes was a session musician in Nashville, singing behind some of Americana’s favorite singer/songwriters. Known as the Sad Cowgirl of Chicago, Downes brings a special fire to her music. Reilly’s debut solo album, Spent, is as gutting as they come (it was one of my favorite releases in June.) Now, she’s following it with the her haunting rendition of “Wicked Game.”

“This is almost a sister to my very first single’s video, Water’s Fine,'” she explains. “I’ve always had an infatuation with ‘Siren Songs,’ mostly thanks to the Coen Brothers making use of Southern lullabies to create them. While ‘Water’s Fine’ is a song and video to draw you in, my rendition and video for Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” uses that sultriness of a siren song to evoke a haunting feeling.
