Donny Van Slee grabs the bull by the horns. Music has always been his love, but it wasn’t until he took a stop off in Nashville while pursuing chiropractic studies that he knew he had to be a musician. He dove headfirst by persistently hitting up Tootsie’s — the legendary Nashville bar — for an audition until they finally said yes. Van Slee’s been fronting many a honky-tonk band on Broadway since, but Sip On Me gives us a view of his own music. It’s country-tinged, but certainly kissed by the Florida beach bars Van Slee cut his teeth in.
The EP kicks off with “Sip On Me,” a charming love song with a punk rasp. This is the most country the album gets — a fun romp with some steel guitar and sweetly tender lyrics. Most of the EP is more laid-back, cheery meditations that rely on a simple refrain and catchy hook — Jack Johnson with a little more heft. “Wonderful World” is a quietly optimistic song, gently defiant in its refusal to be bogged down by the negatives.
Sip On Me delivers a feel-good sensibility with relentless good cheer, a reminder of the things in life that make it worth living.

What a great review.Im so proud of My nephew. From the time he started playing. I would go to his practices… I would tell my sister. Donny has something special. I just knew he was going to become a great musician someday…. the best part is when he comes to visit and plays for us……
