Destinie Lynn’s EP “Little Ghost” is a five-song collection that embodies all that ghostliness means. To be sure, there’s a good deal of haunting here, and Lynn takes us on a journey with lilting guitars and a singing voice that is both airy and meaningful. Much like a ghost’s touch, her songs seem light on the surface until you realize you’re left with a mysterious chill.
As in her previous work, Lynn draws upon hypnotic loops to ease the listener in — before devastatingly pulling the rug out from beneath them. The EP kicks off with “Once, Twice,” a waltz with an easily singable melody whose lyrics sharply contrast with the song’s sunny exterior.
As we delve further into the EP, Lynn guides us into progressively darker songs, with the final track, “Canoe & The Sea,” a full-blown Gothicana delight. In between these two songs, we explore longing, nostalgia, and depression. At the end of the day, that one ghost none of us can shake — grief — presides.
