HEY! LISTEN: Kiely Connell Moves “Through To You” To Reach Her Goals

Kiely Connell has a knack for moody, alluring roots rock. Her hypnotic Calumet Queen will make a lasting impression if you haven’t had a chance to listen yet. Fortunately, it’s only a few weeks before the release of her next album, My Own Company (July 19), and Connell is teasing us with the powerful “Through To You.”

The acoustic version foregrounds Connell’s knockout voice and her moving performance as she mourns the would-be rock stars who can’t get out of their own way. Conell plays with a punk rock vigor, even as her delivery is pure country croon.

Kiely says of the single, “This was inspired by the small-town rock stars I know. They’ve never met a drink they couldn’t down or a drug they wouldn’t try. In dimly lit drunken moments they’ll confess to you that they know they’ve got a problem and you can’t seem to help them, and they can never help themselves.”

Her upcoming album, My Own Company will be out on July 19th. It is produced by Tucker Martine (Roseanne Cash, Courtney Barnett, Madison Cunningham) and features bassist Nate Query (the Decembrists), drummer Andrew Borger (Tom Waits, Norah Jones) and long-term musical companion and guitarist Drew Kohl. The album will be released via Thirty Tigers.
