I’ve had a whole lot of nice things to say about Roof Beams in the past and it looks like that’s just going to continue. The DC-based band is prepping its next album and is giving the rest of us a taste of what it’ll sound like. This version of “In My Prime,” Robinson tells me, won’t be on the album. The band will be reworking some of those songs for the recording, which will be released later in 2019.
This version seems to fit in nicely with the band’s first album, Tectonics — driving music that takes one dollop of punk and one dollop of folk and stirs it together. The song echoes a common refrain of someone in their 30s: is this as good as it gets? How do I know when it does? Read the lyrics below and hie thee to Roof Beams’ Bandcamp page so you can make this song yours.
Am I in my prime?
Could someone please tell me when it’s my time?
Or am I already in decline?
Can I walk a thin line?
Can I walk a thin line?
I knew what you were gonna do before you even thought about.
I knew what you were gonna do before you talked to god about it.
You know less about this topic than I have forgot about it
Now I sold you all these lines. I just have to see if you bought it.
The girl is listening
Should we be whispering?
Or what does she deserve to know to grow?
Am I in my prime?
Could someone please tell me when it’s my time?
Or am I already in decline?
Can I walk a thin line?
Can I walk a thin line?
