Less became a whole lot more as Aud Whitson began creating the emotive folk on her debut EP, A House That Can’t Get Quieter (out February 7.). The singer-songwriter relied on just a few tools to record the four gripping tracks; including voice memos from her phone, midi tracks, and mellotrons with producer Chase Horseman. The result is a collection of songs that are bracingly minimalist and uncomfortably intimate. With her new song “Feeling It,” Whitson examines the power of overwhelming emotions.
“Feeling It” is a collection of seemingly disconnected vignettes that all center on the ways we reflect each other’s emotions. We can’t go through life alone, and whether we are overwhelmed by joy or grief, it’s all the same in the end.
With A House That Can’t Get Quieter, Whitson wants “to bring light to some really painful and not often talked about feelings in hopes that it will remove the shame and taboo associated with them.” Whitson shares, “so that we as a society can better understand and consider folks who are dealing with this stuff.” Heavy subjects like depression, grief, and “a whole lot of existential chaos” are silent collaborators on the solo works, much of which is drawn from Whitson’s own experiences.
“The making of this EP has been one of the most unexpectedly transformative experiences of my life,” she continues. “I am so grateful for the inspiration this project has instilled in me as an artist and excited for how it will influence the music I make in 2025 and beyond.”
A House That Can’t Get Quieter will be out on Friday, February 7, 2025
