If you’re reading this blog, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with one of these acts and have at least a passing acquaintance with the other. If you’re in New York City, you’re in luck because this is easily going to be one of the best bills in town this summer, if not this year.
I’ve written about Branan’s frenetic energy before. Branan’s got a fantastic set of songs full of the things you probably like: clever songwriting, sing-along melodies, and sick licks. Also, inventiveness in spades. Branan’s not one to rest on his laurels and if you see him play a song live, it’s likely that’s the only time you’ll hear it played in quite that way. His last album, Adios is still sticks with me and I’m stoked to sing along to some of my favorite songs of all time.
American Aquarium is fresh off one of their best albums to date. With a new lineup and a more mature outlook on life, I’m excited to see what BJ Barham and associates will bring to the table. They’ve got the songs, so we’ll see what they bring to their live show.
UPDATE: For a look at what you’re gonna get, here’s the two of them performing Springsteen’s “Darkness on the Edge of Town.” Only Cory Branan could make holding a can of Coke look punk as hell.
The New York City show is this Sunday at the Gramercy Theater. Doors open at 8.
You can find Cory’s tour dates here and American Aquarium’s tour dates here.
Just saw them two nights ago in Louisville – awesome, awesome, awesome.
