PREMIERE: The Barlow Put the Outlaw in Country With “It Ain’t Mine”

The Barlow imbue their music with a quiet confidence and a subtle urgency that make their interpretation of Americana a pleasure. Or, in fact, something real — these are songs for people who don’t need to pretend that life can be a trudge towards something greater. As the band readies their next album, High Spirits (out April 25th), “It Ain’t Mine” is an outlaw country song for people who frequent dive bars rather than honkey-tonks.

“The things we claim to own are often the very things we lose, swallowed by the tide of time and distance,” says lead vocalist Shea Boynton. “The story unfolds in the shadows, where every truth is hidden by the weight of what we never had the right to hold.”

High Spiritswas recorded in two sessions in 2023 and 2024 at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen, Colorado. It was produced by Bennington and the band, engineered by Athena Wilkinson and Brad Smalling at Evergroove, and mixed and mastered by Wes Sharon at 115 Recording in Norman, Oklahoma. Sharon is known for various projects with artists including The Turnpike Troubadours, Parker Millsap, John Fullbright, The Damn Quails, Byron Berline, and Mike McClure.
