Happy anniversary to me!!!! I had some more sober reflections on Adobe & Teardrops’ official tenth birthday, but the party starts today! And like all the best parties, it won’t stop until the music stops.
Unlike last year’s 9th anniversary party, this won’t be a Zoom concert. I think we’ve all had enough of that.
So instead, I wanna do a throwback to Couch x Couchwest, which ruled the then-unnamed Americana scene. If you don’t know it, it was a blog that posted bands’ videos through South x Southwest to prove that you didn’t need a plane ticket and unlimited PBR to have a good time.
But! There’s a catch! Adobe & Teardrops has always championed social justice causes, and it won’t be any different 10 years in. We’re going to be raising money for Never Again Action, a Jewish-led action group that mobilizes against the persecution of immigrants in the United States. Just because Biden is president doesn’t mean things are magically better — in fact, they’re worse. Not only has Biden kept all 115 of Trump’s ICE contracts in place, he’s exacerbating the deplorable treatment of asylum seekers, as we’ve seen with Haitian immigrants in Texas.
Just this past Monday, NAA launched an action at DHS Secretary Mayorkas’s house. You can read more about it here. In addition to mobilizing actions, Never Again Action worked alongside the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund to raise bail to release our immigrant neighbors on bail from private detention centers in the tri-state area during Passover 2020. Even in the early days of the pandemic, we raised thousands of dollars to bring our neighbors home.
So here’s how this works. For every $100 raised at the Adobe & Teardrops personalized ActBlue link, I will release a new video. I’m hoping to raise at least $1400 for Never Again Action! You can also sign this petition demanding that Biden cancel those ICE contracts as he promised on the campaign trail.
